From Renewable Energy in Ukraine to State-of-the-Art Airport Parking in Seattle

Last week I asked my Tip of the Week Community to tell me about yourself and the cool stuff you’re working on. You guys BOWLED US OVER with your answers to my question, “What’s the coolest thing you’re working on?

From renewable energy in Ukraine to state-of-the-art airport parking in Seattle, you guys are up to some amazing things. Below, see a cut of some of the most interesting. (If you’re not on it, it doesn’t mean your project isn’t great – this is just a quick sampling!)

I bet there’s things you’ll see on that list that will inspire you, as they did me – or things that you know you could help with. I’m working in my spare time to build and grow a nonprofit program to put new and gently used sports equipment in the hands of children in need – children involved in sports have higher self esteem, are much less likely to enter the criminal justice system, and have a much better chance of getting out of poverty.

  26. Seed funding for a new plug-in hybrid truck company, mainly displacing the need for diesels in cities
  27. Developing a new way to light motion pictures and television using remote phosphor technology, this disruptive technology will be a game changer.
  28. I am starting a program called Philanthropy Field Trips. The field trips are custom designed to make it easy and fun for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved with nonprofits in their communities.
  29. New initiative to help our collection of churches generate leaders who can help turnaround struggling churches
  30. Working my way through the 30-Day Challenge, which I heard about on the 4- Hour Work Week forums
  31. The construction of an historic replication of a two-story pavilion, being built ON a lake!

  38. Lawsuits against BP over the Deepwater Horizon spill.
  39. Remodeler by day, writer by night, I have started working on a series of children’s books
  40. Last year we launched a non-profit association to help build the media industry in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
  41. Teaching mountain dulcimer’s to elementary school students; with the dulcimers purchased from donations given to a group of us that entertain local clubs and church’s
  42. A new leadership program for women that connects the strategies and mindset of athetes to professional success
  43. Writing a book on my family’s geneaology
  44. Local YMCA Strong Kids Campaign. It is an awesome program that makes a lot of kids better people and teaches a ton of life lessons.

  46. I’m helping develop an educational curriculum to help college students understand the importance of their story and develop sustainable leadership habits.
  47. An empowerment program for women who are contemplating or facing separation and/or divorce.
  48. Something for my two sons. They are yearly memory boxes, with items that take them from the time they were born, through each year of their life.
  49. Building a full-service strength and conditioning gym that combines the best of personal training and small group classes.
  50. Opening satellite locations for my Sylvan Learning Center using a new digital learning platform that uses iPads and more cool technology.  This should double my center’s revenue in the next 12 months.
  51. A Hybrid musical about the Comfort Women during WWII.
  52. A board game for the blind
  53. My experimental essay on Whisky and Gardening.
  54. A large scale early-cancer-detection product
  55. A social entrepreneurship project to assist individuals who have been financially affected by sudden acute illness.
  56. Currently writing a seminar series targeted at families planning for parent’s later years. Adult children, spouses, and elder parents = audience.
  57. Preparation for my dream job as a Development Officer at a prestigious Children’s Hospital
  58. A graphic novel about a Young Orphan and an Old Lady looking for water from the fountain of youth in Sevilla.
  59. A Proactive virtual assistant, like-Siri, but pushes information you need to know, like if there is traffic between you and a meeting.

A political art project; I make portraits of GLBT individuals showcasing something that shows how normal and average American and unique they are: doctors, artists, lawyers, politicians, chefs, etc. The goal is to show that you cannot tell whether a person is gay, straight, trans, bi, etc. just by looking at them or their career, and that the people who are being denied rights by politicians and laws such as Prop 8 are the same people you work with and know, the people you trust with your finances, your health, and your life.

    to my 4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
